description
Creating a better method of flood control throughout New Orleans is the objective of this project located in the Marigny district of the city. The designer’s hypothesis is that traditionally designed levee walls do not mitigate flooding because they simply channel water. This proposed system of flood mitigation aims to diffuse floodwaters, diverting them through a branching network of constructed channels for collection and drainage. The designer thus imagines “correcting” the city’s natural topography constructing “pockets” by means of the new hydraulic system.
