Excellent project. I pray that this could possibly be implemented for the good of the ciy and it's people---I have serious doubts any good will surface. At least you Miguel are alive and have energy to look forward. Don't give up!

I have basically tried to develop a strategy for recovering the Lower Ninth Ward by activating the levee. My argument is if you inhabit the levee (the actual site of the 900 ft. levee breach) you not only bring attention to its integrity, but also make it a part of everyday life and a lasting memory of what happened. I see the events that took place post-Katrina as an opportunity for the Lower 9 to take a new course, one that harnesses the newly found activism and marry it with the tools and technology necessary to realize a rebuilt Lower 9.
By building directly on the levee itself you send a message to those who might have given up on rebuilding the Lower 9 at all. To those displaced and or struggling to rebuild, it offers a beacon of hope. The program for the project is a community center, lyceum, and fabrication laboratory. The idea is that the people should not only have a say in the future of their neighborhoods, but they also should be equipped with the technology and tools to realize it.
