This haunting and hallucinatory memorial commemorates those lives lost to the Katrina disaster.

Its acute simplicity departs from the clichéd reliance on monumental gestures, illusions of permanence or textual identification… instead a poetic vision conveys the memorial's intentions. Hovering between sea and sky trees float within their planters while held in position by unseen frames rooted deep into the gulf's bed.

This juxtaposition of trees and water both evokes and mystifies. Here, beauty and poetics commemorate the many victims.
