Located at the corner of Tulane and Perdido, the site of New Orleans' main public library, this project interprets the exchange of information between the community and public school students as an architectural idea. The project reworks the existing building, keeping the aluminum sunscreen and adding polycarbonate panels for energy efficiency. Aiming to be a node of community knowledge, the structure incorporates both a public library and a school. Included are an African American resource center, an auditorium, and a media presentation space. Activities in the building are intended to stimulate interaction with events at City Hall and Duncan Plaza, not only to engage the students with urban issues, but also to place education at the nexus of city government.
