This project imagines a remodel of the existing Philips Jr. High School near City Park , which, pre-Katrina, served many residents of the St. Bernard Housing development. The proposed building makes use not only of the waste left by Katrina, which is incorporated into the foundation, but also of recyclable materials, which are used for structural infill. A ramp and trellis system allows for expansion as the student population grows. Located on the ground floor, a community center offers technical seminars and serves as a community node for those in the surrounding neighborhoods who are seeking to rebuild.
