This sophomore-level studio, in its assignments, readings, and discussions, took a special focus
on social, cultural, environmental, and narrative issues raised by, and resulting from, the events surrounding Hurricane Katrina. These issues were explored
within both the context of the design professions, as well as the context of cultural and environmental stewardship. The first project undertaken was the
design of a housing prototype, as part of the Rebuilding New Orleans competition. LTU students Carlos Lopes and Bill Kwasniak were selected as two of the
twenty student designers to have their work exhibited at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans. These twenty were drawn from over 175 competition
entrants. The second project this semester was the design of the Tulane City Center, a community design facility located on the high ground off of Chartres Street. |
